이번 BMW 의 M3 에 적용되는 색상인 프로즌 그레이를 비롯해서 스마트 포투에도 적용되는등 올해의 새로운 페인트 트렌드(?)로 무광 페인트 들이 있습니다.

기존의 무광 페인트는 제가 회사에서 장난감으로 보관하는 크라운 빅토리아 처럼 프라이머만 뿌리고 여기다가 사포질 없이 페인트만 살짝 뿌린다거나 아예 무광 시트지로 도색을 하는 경우가 대부분이었는데요.

공장에서 나오는 무광 페인트의 경우 과연 관리를 어떻게 해야 하나? 하고 궁금해 하던차에 오늘 BMW 딜러 시스템이 다음과 같은 손질 방법이 떴더군요.

설명에 따르면 실제로 '프로즌 그레이'는 '스페이스 그레이' (일반적인 쥐색)위에 클리어 코트 대신 무광 코팅을 입혔다는 설명인데요.

이러한 도색의 관리 방법은

a. 절대 왁스질이나 광택을 내지 말것

b. 컴파운드를 비롯한 가능한한 어떤 종류의 화학 약품등도 문지르지 말것.

c. 광택기등을 사용하지 말것.

d. 세차시에는 오직 곤충 제거제와 차량 샴푸만 사용할것. (이것도 너무 빡빡문지르면 이부분에 광(?)이 나므로 이경우에는 무광 페인트를 다시 칠해야 함)

e. 다른 화학 약품으로 잘못 세차 했다가는 페인트 다시 칠해야 할 수 있음

f. 손세차를 절대 권장. 자동세차 할 수 있으나 다음에 사항을 유의 해야함

  1. 고압의 물로만 뿌리는 세차기 권장. 솔로 문데는 곳(?)은 절대 피하기

  2. 그나마 천으로 살살 만져주는(?) 세차기는 괜찮음

  3. 돈 더내고 하는 '왁스' 뿌리기 같은건 절대 하지 말기 (다른 말로 젤 싼 기본 세차만 하기)

  4. 세차기 입장전 벌레나 먼지등은 물로 대충 씼어내고 들어가기.

이후에 만약 손상이 가거나 '광이 나면' 페인트를 할때 무지하게 신경 써야 하고, 특히 흔히 보통 공업사에서 색상이 차이나는것을 좀 덜 티나게 하기 위해 주변 페널까지 칠하는 '블랜딩'은 절대 하지 말아야 함. 그냥 그 손상된 판넬만 신경써서 조색해서 그것만 페인트 하고 끝내야 함

뭐 이런 이야기인데요..

어떻게 보면 '무광' 페인트가 세차 절대 안하고 사는 분들한테는 오히려 더 편할 수도 있겠다라는 생각이 드는 군요.

Frozen Gray Metallic Exterior Paint with Matte Finish - Special Handling

INFORMATION
Beginning with June 2010 production, a small number of vehicles will be painted with a new color referred to as "Frozen Gray Metallic". This two-stage paint color consists of a Space Gray Metallic base coat with a specially formulated matte finish clear coat.

Aside from having a unique appearance, this paint also has several unique properties which require unique handling. Failure to handle this paint properly could result in permanent damage and costly repairs, which is not covered by the BMW Limited New Vehicle Warranty.

Due to the nature of a matte finish, dirt and debris on the paint surface are less noticeable than on a glossy surface. However, when washing/cleaning the paint or repairing it, the following recommendations must be followed. If these recommendations are not followed, the result could be paint that has an uneven surface finish, bright/glossy spots, or colors that do not match.

Cleaning and Care:

• Never polish or wax the vehicle.

• No products that are even mildly abrasive, such as polishes, glazes, or compounds, should be applied to the surface of the paint.

• No mechanical means of cleaning the surface, such as a buffing wheel, should be used.

• The only recommended surface applications are BMW insect remover and car shampoo.
  • NOTE: These products must be used gently and applied with a soft sponge. Rubbing too aggressively (speed and/or pressure) could result in glossy spots which can only be repaired by repainting the panel.

• Any outside materials, such as insect remains, resins, tar spots, oils, etc., must be removed immediately using approved products, or damage may result. Repairing such damage can be time-consuming and costly.

• Hand washing the vehicle is preferred; however, automatic car washes may be used, provided the following precautions are taken:
  • Touch-less car washes are preferred over those with brushes.

  • Car washes that use brushes may be used, but the brushes must be soft. Plastic bristle brushes should be avoided.

  • Be sure to select a wash program that does NOT apply a surface wax. No wax from an automated car wash should ever be applied.

  • High-pressure water should be used prior to entering the wash to remove any surface contaminants, such as dirt, bird droppings, etc. If not removed, these could scratch the surface of the paint.

  Repairing:

  • If surface scratches, swirl marks, etc., are present, they must not be repaired by polishing or using other surface abrasives.

  • Paint damage should only be repaired by a BMW trained body shop.

  • Special repair instructions are available for this paint and should always be consulted before attempting a repair.

  • When painting a panel with a matte finish, special attention must be given to color matching, as blending of the clear coat into adjacent panels is not recommended.

  • If paint work is performed on this vehicle, only BMW approved paint products may be used.
